Mateo would be turning 34 this year.
His impact on the individuals and communities he loved had vision that extended far longer than the short time he was with us. Today we honor the actions, character, and values he lived by in all aspects of his life by committing to love, respect, and appreciate the diverse backgrounds and personalities of every person we meet.

We hosted a virtual Día de los Muertos event on November 1, 2020 at 4.00pm.
Día de los Muertos is a day where families welcome back the souls of their deceased loved ones for a brief reunion that includes food, drink, and celebration. It is a beautiful blend of Central American ritual and Spanish culture.
With the global pandemic this Día de los Muertos is especially important. As we all know too well, the pandemic has hit the Latino community especially hard and so many of us were impacted. It is for that reason GLC came together in celebration and to honor those whom we have lost and the many others around the world.

We were joined by expert panelists, from attorneys to activists, to discuss the unique hardships, experiences, and strengths of the country’s 267,000 LGBTQ undocumented immigrants.
Despite the hardships, our panelists shared how those who identify as “undocuqueer” have been instrumental to the immigrant rights movement, playing prominent roles in mass protests and in bringing the stories of undocumented people to mass audiences.
In addition to those who attended the event, we reached over 400 viewers on our Facebook live stream of the event.

GLC mobilized to raise over $5,000 to support critical HIV/AIDS preventative care and advocacy programs for thousands of individuals in the tri-state area. Thanks to some of our members’ employer matching gifts program, our final fundraising number fell just shy of $10,000.
